WHY

I made a promise sometime ago to my Lord that I would try to atone for a few things I’m not exactly proud of. There’s a list. It’s not short. But this walk-back is part of that promise, my attempt to gather the memories, misadventures, triumphs, failures, and questionable decisions that shaped my life and whatever legacy sticks.

I hope my grandsons might learn something about the granddad they never really got to know. The man behind the jokes, the scars, the stubborn streak, and the love that never quite fit neatly into words.
I’m hoping my children understand the kind of man I tried sometimes successfully, sometimes spectacularly not to be.
I hope my wives, my family, and my friends find a smile here and there, maybe even a laugh loud enough to make someone ask what’s so funny.

Because even the best storytellers need a sidekick, I enlisted a ghostwriter, a gal named Alisa Imperial. Think of her as the one who hands me the right verb when mine wandered off, or tosses in a little spice when my own words would doze me off. The memories, the stories, the confessions, the love — they’re all mine, seen exactly as they were..
